A Little Friend---Robin

The recent floods in the Southwest of England may have deterred me from watching the starlings but the garden birds always make up for it.

Watching the robins sing is one of my favourite past times.

Although the robin is a common bird in UK, its interesting personality and unique closeness to humans make it one of the favourite garden birds.

This robin has been living in my garden for a while.

Every morning, he stands on top of the trees singing his heart out.

It is always the same spot on the same tree in the back garden.

When I am working in the garden, very often he pops up from nowhere and follows me around for an easy meal of worms.

At the moment, he is still looking for a mate. Hopefully I will be fortunate enough to see his new family soon~

It’s Time For A Break From Unpacking~

Unpacking has taken much longer than I expected. But enough is enough, it is time for a break.

Sitting on the beach in the company of hundreds of seagulls is more than enough to compensate for the past few week’s hard work.

Not only is the size of the Herring Gulls impressive, but their greed for human food is also a plus for me, enabling me to get really close.

The Herring Gulls are sometimes are nuisance for local people here because they can be aggressive around humans, especially children. So they are not everyone’s favourite birds on the west coast of the UK. However, the Herring Gull is an endangered species because its number has declined by more than 50% in the last 25 years.

The Start Of The Next Chapter~

“The ground temperature is 4 degrees (39F)”, the captain's announcement before landing at London Heathrow Airport made my heart sink. It was 27 degree Celsius (80F) when we left Hong Kong. But walking into the fresh air and the beautiful scenery convinced me that the next chapter of my life in the UK would be as enjoyable as in HK, if not more.

I can’t wait to start exploring my local rich wildlife and its exciting stories in the Southwest of England~

Wintering Birds in Mai Po Nature Reserve

I was a bit worried about missing the wintering birds in Mai Po Nature Reserve this year as I have been away a lot lately.
Luckily, there are still plenty of them around in the Reserve and the birds don’t even seem to mind the recent air pollution.

I thought the Black & White images might look less depressing because of the poor air quality.

It makes me wonder how long these birds will be able to spend the winter here, as more and more residential buildings are being constructed every year on the other side of the mudflats in mainland China.
